Basic Information on Starting an Agency, Page 3
13. Another information resource may be the Internet, if you are selective to judge what is relevant and what may be slanted or biased information. Usually federal government sites, federally-funded clearinghouses and resource centers, and national membership organizations will be helpful starting points for those new to adoption. Contact the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse for a listing of such sites.
One web site that is essential for international adoption information is the U.S. State Department's Office of Children's Issues web site at http://travel.state.gov/. The web site provides general information about international adoption as well as a country-by-country guide to adoption processing. The Immigration and Naturalization Service's web site at http://www.usdoj.gov/ins provides information on orphan definitions for issuance of orphan visas as well as required application forms for visa petitions and naturalization.
For more information on agency licensing, contact the State Adoption Specialist or State Licensing Specialist in your State. For contact information, search the National Adoption Directory.
